Meeting Gambian First Lady, Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow

Updated: Aug 31, 2018

On April 27th, 2018, Founding Director Ashleigh DeLuca and Development Manager Annalise Morrone drove to Wilmington, Delaware to meet with the First Lady of The Gambia, Her Excellency Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, and the Ambassador of The Gambia to the United States, The Honorable Dawda D. Fadera. The First Lady traveled to Delaware with the goal of raising awareness for her foundation, FaBB. The FaBB Foundation was founded shortly after the inauguration of President Barrow with the goal of supporting efforts to reduce extreme poverty and assist marginalized women and children in The Gambia.

The meeting with Bah-Barrow came after the Starling Sponsorship Program received the official support of the Embassy of The Gambia in the United States in early April. At the meeting, Founding Director Ashleigh had the privilege of presenting an overview of the history of the Starling Sponsorship Program and the progress made so far. Representatives from the FaBB Foundation later stated that the foundation would be happy to support the Starling Sponsorship Program by purchasing the airfare for the students between The Gambia and the United States.

We want to thank the First Lady, her team, and the FaBB Foundation for her generous support, especially because airfare is such a high expense. We wish her much success for FaBB foundation.
