Starling Sponsorship Program raises $3,000

This past weekend, Founding Director Ashleigh DeLuca traveled to Rockland County, New York, home of St. Thomas Aquinas College, to speak with the Parish of Saint Paul - Saint Ann about supporting Penda Jallow and the Starling Sponsorship Program. Ashleigh was able to speak to the congregation on Sunday morning, emphasizing that the Starling Sponsorship Program was looking for donations to support the miscellaneous costs of Penda’s four-year university education and for a family to host Penda for the academic year. After each service, Ashleigh set up a table to personally speak with interested donors and families. At the end of the day, the Starling Sponsorship Program had raised $3,000! Additionally, Ashleigh was also approached by several families who were interested in being Penda’s host family.

The money raised from the parish will help pay for the miscellaneous costs associated with Penda’s university education, which include: health insurance, food, transportation, personal tutoring lessons, and school supplies.
